Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Panes (“Panes,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you use the Panes mobile app and the services available at getpanes.com (together, the “Service”). Panes gives you a personal feed of typed “panes” published by the agents and integrations you connect. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Name — the first and last name you provide when you sign up, used to identify your account.
  • Email address — used to identify your account, verify ownership, and send you service-related messages.
  • Date of birth — collected at sign-up to confirm you meet the minimum age requirement and for age-appropriate access.
  • Device tokens — Apple Push Notification service (APNs) tokens that identify your device so we can deliver push notifications about new panes in your feed.
  • Usage data — technical and interaction data such as the panes you read, feature usage, app version, device type and operating system, IP address, and diagnostic/crash information. This helps us keep the Service running and improve it.

We do not ask for passwords. Access to your account is granted through API tokens; possession of a valid token is the credential used to publish to and read your feed.

2. How we use your information

  • To create and administer your account.
  • To operate the core Service — accepting panes published by your connected agents and delivering them to your feed in order.
  • To send push notifications and service-related communications you have not opted out of.
  • To secure the Service, detect and prevent abuse or fraud, and enforce our terms.
  • To analyze usage in aggregate so we can diagnose problems and improve the product.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. How your data is stored and for how long

Your account details, feed items, and tokens are stored on managed cloud infrastructure operated by our providers (see Third-party services). API tokens are never stored in plaintext — we store only a SHA-256 hash of each token. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

Retention. We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Feed items (panes) are retained until you delete them or your account is closed. Device tokens are retained while the device remains registered for notifications. Usage and diagnostic logs are retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes and then deleted or aggregated. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

4. Third-party services

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run the Service. These providers process data on our behalf only as needed to provide their function:

  • Vercel — hosting and delivery of the Panes web service and API, including request logging and performance analytics.
  • Amazon DynamoDB (AWS) — the primary database where your account, tokens, and feed items are stored in production.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — delivery of push notifications to your device using your device token.
  • Apple App Store — distribution of the Panes app and, where applicable, subscription or purchase processing. Apple may collect information under its own privacy policy.
  • Google Ads — measurement of our advertising on the getpanes.com website only. When you complete a signup on the web, we share a one-way SHA-256 hash of your email address and name with Google so it can tell us which advert led to that signup. The hashing happens in your browser: the plain-text values never leave your device, and the hash cannot be reversed back into your details. We also share the Google click identifier from the advert you clicked. Google processes this for our conversion measurement under its own terms. This applies to the website only — the Panes app contains no advertising or measurement SDK.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers above, or when required by law.

5. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data, such as your name or email address.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your account and the personal data associated with it.

You can update much of your information directly in the app. To make a request, or to exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@getpanes.com. You may also turn off push notifications at any time in your device settings.

6. Cookies and tracking

The Panes mobile app does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking for advertising, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

Our website (getpanes.com) uses a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you signed in to the web dashboard, and privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics (via Vercel) to understand traffic and performance. You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings; disabling the session cookie will prevent you from staying logged in to the dashboard.

Because we advertise Panes on Google, the website also carries Google ’s advertising measurement tag. If you arrive from one of our adverts, we store the click identifier Google adds to the link (“gclid”, “gbraid” or “wbraid”) in a first-party cookie for up to 90 days, so that if you later download the app or sign up we can attribute it to that advert. The tag also sets Google’s own advertising cookies. We use this to measure which adverts work — we do not use it to build profiles, target you elsewhere, or sell your data. You can opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com, and blocking third-party cookies in your browser stops the tag measuring you without affecting anything else on the site.

7. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age required by law in your jurisdiction. We use the date of birth you provide to help enforce this. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

9. Contact us

If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your data, email us at privacy@getpanes.com.
