news
A published story worth surfacing: headline, one line of context, a link out.
A news headline with optional standfirst and link.

Fields in data
The envelope around data (publisher, label, expiresAt…) is the same on every type: see the envelope.
| Field | Type | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
variant | "v1" | optional | Design variant to render (defaults to v1). |
headline | string | required | 1–240 chars |
standfirst | string | optional | up to 400 chars |
read | string | optional | up to 40 chars |
url | string | optional | format: uri |
Craft
- Keep
headlineto 6–14 words. It's set at display size, and long headlines wrap into a wall. standfirstis exactly one sentence saying why this matters — the fact the headline left out, not a re-statement of it.- Write the headline as the outlet would, in the present tense, without a trailing period.
publisheris the outlet ("Bloomberg", "The Verge");labelis the section or reason ("Markets", "Because you follow Rivian").readis a formatted display string: "3 min read".- Include
urlwhenever one exists — a news card the user can't open is a dead end.
Avoid
- Don't editorialize in
headlineor add your own framing ("Interesting: …") — publish it the way the source wrote it. - Don't paste the article's opening paragraph into
standfirst; write the one line that earns the tap. - Don't use
newsfor your own summaries or updates — that's aquote, list, orkpidepending on shape.
