quote
Words worth reading slowly: a book highlight, a line from an interview, a passage someone saved.
A pull-quote or highlight, in a sidebar-rule or statement treatment.

Variants
Set data.variant to one of: sidebar-rule, statement. Picking the wrong one is the most common way a card comes out looking foreign.
- Pick the variant by weight:
"sidebar-rule"for a highlight from a longer work,"statement"for a single line that stands alone.
Fields in data
The envelope around data (publisher, label, expiresAt…) is the same on every type: see the envelope.
| Field | Type | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
variant | "sidebar-rule" | "statement" | optional | |
text | string | required | 1–600 chars |
author | string | optional | up to 120 chars |
source | string | optional | up to 160 chars |
Craft
- This is the one card built for prose — 15–50 words is the sweet spot. Under 10 looks thin in the display treatment.
- Pick the variant by weight:
"sidebar-rule"for a highlight from a longer work,"statement"for a single line that stands alone. - Attribute it.
authoralone is fine when the source is obvious; addsourcewhen the work is the interesting part. - No quotation marks in
text— the treatment supplies them. - Trim to the sentence that carries the idea. A paragraph in a quote card is a paragraph nobody reads.
- This is the type
readablewas made for — set it when the passage is meant to be heard as much as read.
Avoid
- Don't put your own writing here and attribute it to the user —
quoteimplies someone said this. - Don't use it as a generic text card for notes or summaries; a
listornewsfits those better. - Don't include a trailing citation inside
text("— Gaiman, 2012") whenauthor/sourcealready carry it.
